Getting Started

A short tour of the first hour with CoachingPortal — what the signup flow walks you through, what’s already set up for you, and where to go next.

Signup

Coach accounts are created at signup.coachingportal.io. Once you’ve registered and verified your email, you’re routed into the coach onboarding flow.

The onboarding flow

Onboarding is an 8-step guided setup. You can step backward, skip optional steps, and the app saves your progress as you go.

The steps in order:

  1. Welcome — quick intro to what you’re about to set up.
  2. Business Branding (admin coaches only) — your business name, contact info, online presence, and accent color. The accent color you pick here drives the entire app’s primary color throughout your workspace. You can change it any time via Settings → Branding.
  3. Profile Setup — your coach profile (name, photo, credentials, bio). This is what your clients see in their portal.
  4. Calculation Settings — the math that powers macro calculations: BMR formula, activity multipliers, deficit/surplus amounts, macro distribution, and units (imperial/metric). Detailed in Settings → Calculations.
  5. Invite Your First Client — send your first invite without leaving onboarding. Optional; you can do it from Clients afterward instead.
  6. Dashboard Tour — quick walkthrough of the main dashboard surfaces.
  7. Notifications — push notifications, biometric auth, quiet hours, timezone.
  8. You’re All Set! — completion screen. Click through and you land on your dashboard.

Non-admin coaches (team members invited into someone else’s workspace) skip the Branding step — that’s reserved for the workspace admin.

What gets set up automatically

When you complete onboarding, the app does some setup behind the scenes:

  • Starter exercise programs — a small library of built-in templates is seeded into your workspace so you have something to assign without building from scratch. You’ll see them in Training → Exercise Programs. The seeding is fire-and-forget; if it doesn’t complete, the next visit to the exercise page backfills it.
  • Default check-in sections — your check-in template is initialized with a sensible default set of sections (weight, photos, wellness, habits, etc.). Customize in Settings → Check-in customization or hide sections you don’t use.

Your first day

Once onboarding is done, the natural order is:

  1. Build a meal plan template — go to Nutrition → Meal Plans. Pick a template structure (3-Meal Day is a gentle start), set macro targets, add a few foods. You don’t need to fully populate it yet; you’re just learning the builder.
  2. Build or assign an exercise programTraining → Exercise Programs. Use one of the seeded templates, or build a fresh one. Assign to your first client.
  3. Send a check-in — wait until your client’s set check-in day, or send one manually. When they submit, you’ll see it in Check-ins.

When you have your first client

Onboarding includes an Invite Your First Client step, but you can also invite at any time from Coach → Clients → Invite. Walk-through is in Clients → Inviting clients.

Self-coaching mode

If you’re coaching yourself rather than other clients, your signup flow may go through a different onboarding (Basics → Goals → Measurements). That mode is separate from the coach flow and gives you the client portal experience for your own training; the coach side won’t apply.
