For Clients
If you’re a client of a coach using CoachingPortal, this section is for you. Your coach builds your plan in their workspace; you see and act on it through your portal — log meals, weigh in, message your coach, view progress.
Your portal
When you sign in, you land on your Dashboard — your daily summary view. From there, the navigation has these main sections:
- Dashboard — today’s view, quick logging
- My Plan — your meal plan from your coach
- Exercises — your assigned training program
- Running — your running program (if you have one)
- Insights — your own analytics, weight trend, photos, habits
- Check-in — your weekly check-in form
- Messages — direct chat with your coach
- Resources — articles, videos, files your coach has shared with you
- Community — group chats, leaderboards, challenges (if your coach has set them up)
- Settings — profile, notifications, integrations
Logging
Most of what you do in the portal is logging — recording what actually happened so your coach can see and respond.
Weight
Log your weight from the Dashboard or Check-in. Each entry is a single weigh-in for the day. Most clients weigh in daily and the platform smooths over the noise; some coaches prefer once a week — follow your coach’s guidance.
Meals & macros
Two ways to log food, depending on how your coach has you set up:
- Macros only — log total daily protein, carbs, fat, and calories without tracking specific foods
- Full meals — log each food item, with quantity and serving size, into specific meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks)
If you’re on a meal plan from your coach, the plan shows up on the My Plan page with each meal pre-populated. Mark items as eaten as you go through the day.
Barcode scanner
Scan packaged food barcodes to look up nutrition info directly. The scanner is a button in the food search; point your phone’s camera at the barcode and it auto-fills the food name and macros if it finds a match. Works best on the native iOS or Android app.
If a barcode doesn’t match, you can search by name or add a custom food.
Exercises and workouts
Your coach assigns programs from their workspace; you see them on the Exercises page. Each workout day lists the exercises with target sets, reps, and load.
While working out:
- Tap a set to log it — actual reps, actual weight
- If your coach has periodization enabled, you’ll also see an RIR field (Reps In Reserve)
- The previous workout’s data shows alongside so you know what to beat
- Mark sets complete as you finish them
- Add or remove sets if you go off-script
The workout is saved as you go — close the app mid-session and pick back up where you left off.
Cardio
Cardio is logged separately — duration, distance, type (run, bike, row, etc.). Your coach may set a weekly cardio target you’re working toward.
Steps via Health Connect / Apple Health
Rather than entering daily step counts manually, you can connect your phone’s health data:
- iOS — Apple Health
- Android — Health Connect
Both connect from Settings → Health Connection. Toggle the switch on, grant permission, and your daily step totals start syncing automatically. The platform only reads your step count — it doesn’t access workouts, heart rate, sleep, or any other health data.
The settings panel shows the time of your last sync. If something looks stale, hit Sync now to force a refresh.
This integration is only available in the native iOS or Android app, not the web.
Check-ins
Your weekly check-in is how your coach gets a structured update on how the week went. Open the Check-in page to fill out the form your coach has configured for you.
The form usually includes:
- Weight summary
- Photos (front, side, back)
- Wellness ratings (sleep, stress, energy, mood)
- Habit completions for the week
- Free-text summary
- Any custom questions your coach has added
When you submit, your coach gets a notification and reviews it. Their response (with any plan adjustments) shows up in your Messages thread when they’re done.
Insights
The Insights page is your own analytics view. It has tabs for:
- Goals — progress toward your weight target, milestones, weekly rate of change
- Analytics — broader trends across your data
- Weight & Measurements — weight history plus body measurements over time
- Photos — your progress photo timeline
- Habits — habit completion stats
- Workouts — logged training (if you have an exercises program)
This is the same data your coach sees on their side — you both have visibility into what’s happening.
Messaging
The Messages page is direct chat with your coach. You can send text or audio messages; check-in responses from your coach appear in the thread alongside regular messages.
Your coach is notified when you send a message; you’re notified when they reply (if you have push notifications enabled).
Resources
Articles, PDFs, videos, and links your coach has shared with you live on the Resources page. New resources show as recent; older ones stay accessible. Coaches typically use this for educational content, intake forms, technique videos, or anything they want you to have on hand.
Habits
If your coach has set up habits for you to track, they show on the Habits page or as a section in your check-in. Habits are simple recurring behaviors (e.g. “morning walk”, “8 hours sleep”) with a frequency target. Mark each day as done; over weeks, your completion stats build up.
Settings & notifications
The Settings page covers:
- Profile — your personal info (name, photo, height, gender, goal)
- Health Connection — Apple Health / Health Connect toggle
- Notifications — push notification toggle, biometric auth, quiet hours
- Subscription — if you’re on a paid plan or self-coaching subscription
Push notifications
Turn on push to get notified when your coach sends a message or responds to your check-in. Push works in:
- The native iOS app
- The native Android app
- Chrome, Edge, or Firefox on desktop or Android web
Push doesn’t work in iOS Safari (Apple platform limitation). If you’re an iPhone user, install the iOS app for reliable notifications.
Community
If your coach has set up team chats, leaderboards, or challenges, they show on the Community page. Team chats let you talk with other clients (or coaches) in a group; leaderboards rank participants by some metric (steps, workouts, etc.); challenges are time-bounded competitions.
Community content is opt-in by your coach — if you don’t see it, your coach hasn’t set anything up yet.
Self-coaching
If you signed up for self-coaching (no coach, you’re managing yourself), most of the surfaces above are still yours — you build your own meal plans, set your own programs, track your own data. The “your coach” parts (messaging, check-in responses, coach notes) don’t apply.
Getting help
If something’s off in the app or you can’t figure out a feature, your coach is your first stop — they know your specific setup. For platform issues that aren’t coaching-specific, email support@coachingportal.io.
